Christmas Joy

Finally, the school year has finished and we are into our first debratting day.  That means I instantly become a mediator and hostage negotiator as the kids discover how to be with each other for extended periods of time for the third day in a row.

The school bags have been tucked away, the uniforms have been pushed to the other side of the wardrobe and we are settling into 6 weeks of family time.  The hallmark family loving imagery is far from what I’m seeing today, but I’m hopeful it’s coming, or Santa won’t be.

So while I’m being harrassed for food once again and negotiating toys from their hostage situation I will hold this quote in my heart and know that one day this week the kids will settle down and we can all enjoy Christmas together.

Focusing on Summer

I can’t believe that we are nearly at the end of spring and half way through the term for our kids!  Normally I would be running around in flap about Christmas but this year I’m taking it slow and enjoying every day for every joy that it brings.

In the past, my fast paced life would have me realigning priorities and missing out on the wonder of the kids but not this year.  Every evening we are focusing on the positive and I’m making sure this quote is what I’m doing each day.  Of course,  I am by no means a perfect mother, there are plenty of moments when I lose it all over a missing shoe at 8:55am but I’m trying every day I’m trying to enjoy the world with the kids.

Have a great Monday!

Plans for the Holidays

Sometimes you just have to jump off the roundabout and smell the roses.

Slowing Down for the Holidays

Slowing Down for the Holidays

Term 3 is over and that means that life is about to get busier and more exciting.  The thrill of lazy days, BBQ dinners outside and washing that dries on the same day is enough to send me giddy.  These school holidays I have one task; enjoy every minute.

I’ve printed out today’s quote and have it on my fridge as a reminder that days will pass but it’s the memories that last.  I want to make sure that these holidays we make memories and feelings that fill us with happiness for years to come.

What’s your plan for the holidays?

HSC Kicks Off

I don’t want to admit how many years ago I sat the HSC, but I still remember the nerves, the feeling that if I mucked it up my life was somehow doomed.  Of course in hindsight my life back then was pretty fantastic, living at home being looked after, fed with clothes washed and ironed without me doing anything but packing them away.  Sure the nerves were revolting but they pushed me to write what I knew and somehow I managed to pass and enter uni a few years later.

So for all of those year 12 students starting today here is a quote which may or may not describe your last couple of months.  To the year 11 students it’s time to get started so grab your books, snacks and phone clearly this is the new definition of studying.

International Day of Peace 2015

Today is International Day of Peace.  The UN has observed this day every year since 1981.  When you look around your neighbourhood you can only feel gratitude for the wonderful country we live in.  The everyday freedoms we experience are often overlooked but you can’t help to feel grateful when you see what is happening in other parts of our world.  So today we share a quote and a hope that peace can be enjoyed by everyone.

It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas

The countdown is well and truly on with 3 more sleeps until Christmas Day!  The kids are on school holidays and we’re winding up the Christmas festivities with some baking and creating before we pack it all away for another year.  We love Christmas in our house and we’re so excited that Santa will soon be visiting us.  A  couple of years ago he left me an ice cream maker and hubby a Nerf gun as our daughter requested presents for Mummy and Daddy because we had been good, not sure if it will happen again.

If you’re getting excited then enjoy this quote for Christmas;

T’was the Night Before Christmas

Warm summer days and Christmas craft galore, yes we’re heading into the final weeks of term 4 2014.  I can’t believe that Master 6 has nearly completed his first year of school and that Miss 8 is nearly done with Infants school.  I need to stop the world because I am yet to complete their baby books which was my goal for the year as I was going to have so much time being child free every school day. The countdown has begun for my kids as they are tired and so looking forward to a relaxing summer routine.  If you’re looking forward to hanging up the school uniforms then enjoy this for a little giggle as you fold the school socks today.

Struggling to Study

New-definition-of-study

Breaking news for all of those families with teenagers studying for the HSC or end of year exams.  There’s a new definition of the word study and just in case you were wondering your child might be doing a great job of it.

I certainly studied this way but without the texting as it wasn’t around then!

International Day of Happiness

Happiness

Happiness

Today is International Day of Happiness.  In 2012 The United Nations proclaimed the day for recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.  Happiness is different to everyone and achieving lifelong happiness is in hot pursuit by many people these days.  Whilst the day is about raising awareness for public policy it also gives us an opportunity to discuss happiness and what it means to us as individuals and as a community.

I know that in my life  I appreciate those moments of pure joy and happiness that scatter my world but I too realise and appreciate that sometimes I need to look a little harder to find those moments in every day.  As a parent I love seeing the joy and delight in the kids faces and sharing fun times together.  I must admit that my attempt at recreating playschool at home the other day was fun but ended in  frustration when I had to scrub the grout to remove the green stains from our rainbow bubbles.  Note to self; we don’t have to try that one again.  Whilst our painting and bubble play was pure joy for the kids and we had a great time I have now seen where my limits lie.  Next time I will just be happy with one activity after school.

I came across this article which has some tips for increasing your family’s happiness and health.  I found them interesting and achievable so if you’re interested you can check it out here; 13 tips to increase your family’s happiness and health.    I must admit that fun in everyday is great so long as I keep my expectations to a normal level not some freakish recreation of playschool and instead enjoy  riding to school together, cooking or squashing the playdough together.

What’s your way of getting some happy into your day?
