RECIPE: Pretzel Bark

With all the baking and making of everything Rudolph in our house we had left over of chocolate and pretzels.  So I made some Christmas bark with pretzels, the salty pretzels work really well with the chocolate, a little too well if you know what I mean.  You can easily make this with the kids just make sure you put your aprons on as there’s bound to be some chocolate down the front of the kids from licking the bowl.  This bark looks great in cellophane bags as little thank you gifts from the kids.

Pretzel Bark

Pretzel Bark

I usually make Christmas bark with all the candy canes the kids are given from their friends at school and preschool, just unwrap the candy canes and place in a snap lock bag and smash with rolling-pin.

  • 200g milk chocolate, roughly chopped
  • Pretzels broken, or candy canes smashed depending on the bark you’re making

  1. Line a small rectangular slice tin with baking paper.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl for 3 minutes on 50% power, stirring every minute.  Be careful to not burn the chocolate.
  3. Spread the chocolate on the bottom of the pan, smooth the top with the back of a metal spoon.  Sprinkle the broken pretzels or smashed candy canes over the chocolate and place in the fridge to set.
  4. Once set, pull off the paper and break into rough pieces using your hands or a knife.  Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Let me know what you like to make bark with, the combinations are endless.
